Walk, Run & Cycle times are OS Estimates

Making the most of not working and spotting a day of good weather I head off early for this walk as I’m due out with Mart & Ju for supper.  The starting point is Grasmere for a trip around an up and down hike.

After an initial flat start there is a small pull onto Silver How.

The hike from Silver How to Blea Rigg is over grassy terrain.  After a slight mis-calculation of the route I winded my way past various tarns and crags.

With the weather being so sunny Sophie stands out beautifully against the various back drops.

The craggy top of Blea is reached.

Tarn Crag is approached via a drop down to Easedale Tarn followed by a short pull upto the top.

Yet another descent and climb is next as I drop down to Easedale Gill.

Then it’s up stream along Easedale Gill, before heading along the ridge to Calf Crag.

The views back down into Easedale Gill valley and all along the ridge to Gibson and Helm make for a very pleasant ridge walk.

Having ticked off Gibson Knott I head to the unexpected delight of Helm Crag.  I’d not really read the description of the summit so was surprised to find a rock climb to the top.  One that Sophie did not attempt!

The return back to Grasmere is a great end to a wonderful day.  Down the steep slope off Helm Crag into woods before a flat stretch to the car.
