Walk, Run & Cycle times are OS Estimates

My brother in law, Martin, has always said heading up to the Lakes in the Winter for an afternoon hike is always pleasurable.  Often no other walkers around and the light on the hills is wonderful.  So it turned out to be on this walk up Nethermost Pike and Dollywaggon Pike.

I’d picked up Jet from Paul and Yvette and parked at the Wythburn car park.  The route is more or less straight up first passing through the woods and then with views back towards Thirlmere.

Just as one reaches the ridge between Hellvelyn and Nethermost Pike there are great views of Striding Edge and Grisedale, before getting to the top of Nethermost Pike.  The view over the rucksack is back towards Hellvelyn.

From Nethermost Pike it is a short ridge walk to Dollywaggon Pike, with gorgeous late evening sun and shadows for company .

The route down follows the waterfalls of Raise Beck after first glimpsing Grisedale Tarn.  I reached the path back to the car park just as the light was fading.  A well timed hike.
