This is the second attempt to walk these 2 hills, Holme Fell and Black Fell. The first outing was on Walk 17 – Lingmoor Fell when poor weather meant I missed them out, but took in Cathedral Cave instead. The starting point is the same, Skelwith Bridge but with Jet as companion. I retrace the ending steps from walk 17. On reaching Little Langdale, I head south through woods to High Tilberthwaite.
The path then cuts back to Holme Ground, before climbing upto Holme Fell itself.
We then drop down to the path which follows along side the road to Skelwith Bridge. Then picking up the path to Arnside Intake followed by the climb through Iron Keld and on to Black Fell.
It’s has been a glorious winters day and as I return to Skelwith I get great views of snow topped peaks in the distance.
