I’d planned a long walk taking in Holme Fell and Black Crag as well as Lingmoor Fell. The weather though was not great so I just took in Lingmoor Fell with a return route to Skelwith via Cathedral Cave. I’d never been to Cathedral Cave before and what a fantastic suprise detour.
My walk takes me along the edge of Elter Water past The Britannia Inn and upto Wainwrights Inn from Skelwith Bridge. I turn South here through quarries and woods to Dale End.
At Dale End I head up Lingmoor Fell to take in the summit and views of the mist.
After retracing my steps back down the Fell, I pick up the original path and head onto Little Langdale Tarn
This was where I decided against the longer walk, as the views of mist demonstrate. So headed along the linking river between the Tarn and Elterwater to pick up the Cumbria Way back to Skelwith Bridge. En route I crossed this wonderful old bridge. There are hints of Cathedral cave on the way, with amazing remnants of the quarry all around. I had a good time scrambling about the area.
Cathedral cave itself was a gem. Not knowing about it bowled me over.
The walk then went through pastures before Colwith Force featuring in full flow with all the recent rain.
