Walk, Run & Cycle Times are OS Estimates

Parking is at the far end of Haweswater, with views of the ridge walk to Mardale Ill Bell set out before me.

It is a stunning morning to walk up through the Small Water Beck valley to Small Water, a tarn that I’d seen whilst on Walk 5 to Harter Fell.

I’d borrowed my friends dog, Jet, for this walk and proved a real delightful companion as she excitedly explored the pockets of snow left in the north facing gullys.

Mardale Ill Bell and High Street peaks are followed very quickly one after the other.

There is then the amble along the old roman road that is High Street to the next destination The Knott with views down the other side towards Hayeswater.

Three more Wainwrights then follow quickly – the first two, Rampsgill Head and High Raise follow a ridge.

The third Kidsty Pike is a straight line hack, but once reached gives rather scary views as Jet takes what looks like a dive over the edge.

The return to the car park at Haweswater is a fine effort that goes gently downwards before circling around The Rigg and the shore line.
